UPB provides funding to a number of Christian-based and secular organizations that serve the local, regional, and global communities.
One Great Hour of Sharing
One Great Hour of Sharing is an offering that makes the love of Christ real for individuals and communities around the world who suffer the effects of disaster, conflict, or severe economic hardship, and for those who serve them through gifts of money and time. One Great Hour of Sharing is an ecumenical effort that seeks to prove to the world the great power generated when Christians unite in a common cause.
Shaw Community Ministry
The Shaw Community Ministry seeks to enhance the lives and expand the opportunities of children, youth, and adults of the Shaw community (Washington, D.C.) by maintaining relationships and working through partnerships and collaborations with local organizations and members of the community. The Ministry seeks to increase family stability and encourage residents to become responsible, well-rounded, and productive citizens who are able to sustain and contribute to their community.
CROP Hunger Walks
CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations or groups to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world. CROP Hunger Walks help to empower people to meet their own needs by providing food, water, and resources (seeds, tools, wells/water systems, technical training and micro-enterprise loans).
Living Waters for the World
Living Waters for the World is a Christian ministry that provides sustainable clean water, fostering long-term, mutually beneficial relationships between volunteers and communities in need. The ministry partners with communities by developing a sustainable and affordable clean water solution and by teaching local leaders to lead health and spiritual education among the community.
Mary's Center
Mary's Center provides health care, family literacy and social services to individuals whose needs too often go unmet by the public and private systems. Their mission is to build better futures through the delivery of high-quality health care, education, and social services to culturally diverse communities in Washington, D.C. and the Maryland suburbs.
World Hope International
World Hope International is a Christian relief and development organization that is committed to reflect Christ's compassion for all who suffer by working with vulnerable and exploited communities to alleviate poverty, suffering and injustice. The organization partners with local communities to determine the most sustainable, grassroots solutions to injustice and oppression, with the ultimate goal of transferring ownership of the development initiatives to the community.
Cure SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy)
Cure SMA is dedicated to the treatment and cure of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), the number one genetic cause of death for infants. SMA, caused by a mutation in the survival motor neuron gene 1 (SMN1), is a disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord. The Cure SMA organization funds groundbreaking research and provides families the support they need for today. advances in SMA research have thus far led to the development of potential therapies currently in clinical trials.
