What Christian Denomination does the United Parish of Bowie belong to?

UPB is sponsored by the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the United Church of Christ.

What can I expect when I visit?

A

When you enter the United Parish of Bowie, we want you to feel blessed by God's Grace and loved by our congregation.  We are a diverse congregation that welcomes people from all backgrounds, regardless of where you are in your faith journey.

Is the church handicap-accessible?

A

Yes, the UPB church can be accessed by those with physical limitations.  The church is a single-level building with double-door entries and spacious hallways.  Additionally, there are two handicapped parking spots adjacent to the side entrance, and a ramp from the parking lot to the sidewalk.

How long are the services?

A

Each Sunday service begins at 10:00 AM and lasts for 1 hour.

How frequently does Holy Communion take place?

A

Holy Communion is served during the worship service on the first Sunday of each month.  All believers of Jesus Christ are invited to participate in the sacrament.

Do I have to give when I visit the church?

A

Our offerings are voluntary.  We ask that all members and visitors prayerfully consider the guidance from 2 Corinthians 9:7: Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Is there a dress code?

A

You are welcome to come in your preferred attire. You may see people in t-shirts and jeans, and others in dresses and suits.  We want you to feel comfortable when you visit the United Parish of Bowie.

As a First-time visitor, will I be expected to introduce myself during the service?

A

We will not put you on the spot by asking you to rise and identify yourself.  However, we invite you to enjoy Fellowship in the Narthex after the service so that you may meet our Pastor and congregation.

What is Chat & Chew?

A

Light snacks are provided for the post-service fellowship on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the Month.


Q

Are there additional educational opportunities for children that complement the Sunday School classes?

A

Seeds of Worship takes place at 6:00 PM on Wednesday evenings during the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons.  Seeds of Worship allows children and their families to grow in faith together by sharing dinner, playing games, and praising God through music and worship.  Art and Music Camp is a Summer offering: a one-week, 3 hours per day faith-based camp focused on art, music, games, and drama.
